Torfaen art Factory Profile: Graham Allen

Graham has lived in Cwmbran for the last 40 years. He was a college boy from the Welsh valleys, with an engineering background. Graham's forte was in technical drawing and sheet metal work. Since his retirement his passion for Art has been rekindled and he now paints a large variety of different subjects including portraiture, animals and buildings. With his energetic bold style he excels in the use of colour and has skilfully captured mood and the dramatic on canvas. Graham has a shrewd eye he is able to capture the perspective and the moment of his subjects using mainly acrylics and vibrant colours. The energy within his imagery is very much apparent, making his paintings striking. To date he has sold a number of pictures from galleries in Abergavenny, Newport, Caerleon as well as locally in Cwmbran. He also accepts commissions and has painted several pet portraits for clients.

How long have you been a member of Torfaen Art Factory?
I joined the Art Factory about six months after its conception when it was really disorganized and was nothing like it is now.

How would you describe your artwork/style?
In my work I try to capture the “mood” being a building, portrait, or landscape.

What/who are your main influences and how do you see your work progressing?
My main influence in art is a love of nature and an interest in people. I get enjoyment and satisfaction seeing my work on display and selling the odd painting (which I regard as a bonus).
